She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Carpenter and Ruth Carpenter; and her siblings, Bert, Jack, Ben, Bill, Tommy Carpenter and Wanda Bradley.

She is survived by: her child N. C.; her husband James Richard Smith of Raymore, MO; her children, Allen Smith (Cindy) of Raymore, MO, Carl Smith (Nancy) of Raymore, MO, Scott Smith (Julie Anne) of Columbia, MO and Julie Stirnaman (Jason) of Evanston, IL; and her sisters, Patsy Helms of Marshville, NC, Ann Traywick of Peachland, NC and Jane Griffin (Charlotte). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.
