He was predeceased by: his parents, Doyle Spurgeon and Janice Spurgeon (Hesemann); his grandparents, Buell, Esther Spurgeon (Wright), Chester and Helen Hesemann (Landwehr); and his nephew Dean Spurgeon.
He is survived by: his siblings, Anita Sandwell (Don) of Peculiar, MO, David Spurgeon (Debbie) of Mt. Sterling, MO and Earl Spurgeon (Susan Walker) of Peculiar, MO; his nieces and nephews, Jessica Denkler (Brandon), Nicole Spurgeon (Alex Huckaba), Adam Sandwell (Amy) and Roy Spurgeon; his great-nieces, Makenna, Paige and Nan; and his great-nephew Alfred. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
