He was predeceased by: his parents, James Harold and Gertrude Alice Herndon (Ford); his mother-in-law T. Phyllis Collins; his wife Clara Lee Scott; his sister Helen Herndon Bird of Virginia; and his son-in-law Mike Ross.
He is survived by: his son-in-law James Reynolds; his children, Rita Louise Herndon Reynolds, Sandra Kay Herndon Ross and Roger Alan Herndon; and his sister Carolyn Susan Kreitzer Swan. He is also survived by four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
