She was predeceased by: her parents, Georgie Howald and Nora Fertch Howald; her former husband James Richard Whitaker; her husband William E. Karaff; her daughters, Kristin Gerdes and Barbara Hibbs; and her children-in-law, Henry Gerdes and Janice Whitaker.

She is survived by: her sons, Steve Whitaker (Faye) of Perry, Stacey Whitaker of Madison and Damon Whitaker of Salem; her son-in-law Ron Hibbs; and her siblings, Jimmy Howald of New London and Merilyn Scoville of Kansas City. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
