He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph I Bennett and Lillian Bennett; his brother Robert Bennett; his son Donald P. Bennett; and his sister-in-law Marie Bennett.

He is survived by: his wife Roberta Bennett (Greenwald) of New Haven; his children, Robert N. Bennett, Joseph Bennett III (Tina), William Bennett (Elizabeth), Victoria Bennett, Katherine Jenkins and Elizabeth Bennett; his brother William "Billy" Bennett (Linda); and his grandchildren, Justin, Aimee, Robert, Jennifer, Stephanie, Nathan, Jewel, Audrey, William, Krista, Madeline, Kelson and Lillian. He is also survived by great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
