He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl W. Courtney and Minnie Courtney (Burkhart); his son Chris Michael Courtney; his siblings, Bobby Courtney and Pauline Deeds; his nephew Fred Courtney; and his niece Debbie Wright.

He is survived by: his sons, Jason Courtney of Milan and Jeff Courtney (Megan) of Milan; his grandchildren, Megan Karren (Rhett), Jerret Courtney, Hayden Courtney and Haylee Courtney; his great grandchildren, Laney, Molly, Clara and Ella Karren; his sister Betty Stubbs of Milan; his nephews, David Richardson (Terri Lynn), Bobby Ray Richardson (Lori), Rick Courtney and Mike Deeds; and his niece Cheryl Thompson (Gary).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Scobee Cemetery.
