He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Hovis of Utah and Alta Uldine Hovis (Godbey); and his brothers, Hershel Hovis, Patrick Mertz, Woody Schlechter and Terry Hovis.
He is survived by: his daughters, Charmaine Hovis of Mexico and Cerstin Elders (Dennis); his siblings, Delmar Hovis (Evelyn) of St. Louis, Thomas Hovis of St. Louis, Fred Mertz, Jim Schlechter, Harold Hovis, Charolette Mann of Mexico and Barb Schlechter; and his niece Shellonda Mann (Brad Jahn) of Mexico. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
