He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father James Robert; his former wife Shong Jin of Mexico; his daughter Jocelyn Jin Runyan of Columbia; his siblings, Marty Runyan of Columbia and Melany Runyan of Grafton; his nieces, Callie Williams of Ashland and Julie Williamson of Kansas City; his great-nephew Knox Williams of Ashland; and his mother Geraldine Quisenberry Runyan (Quisenberry).
