He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Barnes and Barbara Barnes (Brown); his granddaughter Tylee Barnes; and his brothers, Ronald Barnes and Lonald Barnes.

He is survived by: his wife Ann; his children, Katherine Barnes (Andrew Lentz) of Wilmington and Matthew Barnes (Vanessa) of Centralia; his stepdaughters, Amy Stacey (Jake) of Richmond and Natalie Richardson of Centralia; his grandchildren, Cameron Barnes, Stephanie Danger, Brandon McCoy, Ann-Marie Stacey, Dylan Richardson (Cheyenne Murphy), Heather Richardson and Taylor Richardson; and his siblings, Gaylan Barnes (Robyn), Randy Barnes (Carol), Linn Barnes (Diane) and Carolyn Joy Mozingo. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
