He was predeceased by: his parents, John Matthews and Laura Matthews (Bargfrede); his siblings, Orville and Mariam; and his siblings-in-law, Ervin Martens and Marilyn Ohrenberg.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Kempfe; his children, Mitchell Matthews of Lincoln and Diane Sherrill of Brighton; his granddaughter Mikayla Sherrill; his sister Barbara Sander (Edward) of Alma; and his sister-in-law Alleen Matthews of Alma. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
