He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Atkins and Tommy Fern Atkins (Holman); his wife Betty Atkins; his grandson Andrew Atkins; and his siblings, J. T., John, Marvin Atkins, Ruth Rudd and Rita Wilson Rabe.
He is survived by: his children, Lyle Atkins (Pam) of Overland Park, Daryl Atkins (Linda) of Lawson, Gayle Geiger of Lawson and Nancy Parsons (Tim) of Richland; his grandchildren, Kurt Geiger (Linzi), Klynt Geiger, Kyle Geiger (Roberta), Matthew Parsons (Jen), Phillip Parsons (Jessica), Daniel Atkins (Amaris), Jonathan Atkins (Amy) and Melody Syphert (Tim); and his sister Donna Smoot of Excelsior Springs. He is also survived by 19 great grandchildren, many other nieces and nephews.
