He was predeceased by: his parents, Rulen "Sam" Spies and Reva Pruitt Spies; his son Rulen Knox; and his siblings, Paul, Ray Spies and Barbara Westrich.
He is survived by: his wife Norma Darlene Lufcy; his children, Norman Spies (Becky) of Scott City and Elizabeth Hanner of El Paso, Texas; his grandchildren, Layne Spies (Alle), Hayley Spies (Stetson), Ryan Lyle and Colin Lyleand Cody Daub; his great grandchild Tucker Spies; and his sisters, Clara Westrich of Chaffee, Virginia Ledford of Tennessee and Fimble Kay Enderle of New Hamburg. He is also survived by other relatives and many close friends.
