He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Norma Lea Bates; his children, Doug Bates (Donna Bates) and Linda Thompson (Tim Thompson); his granddaughters, Taylor Thompson, Bailey Thompson and Layne Thompson; his great grandchild Gavin Taylor; his siblings, David Bates and Diane Basquette; and his parents, Francis Bates and Thomas Bates.

Memorial Funds have been established at Hilldale Hospice and Community of Christ Church, Grandview, MO.
