He was predeceased by: his wife Karen Rooney (Nee McLemore); his sisters, Eileen Rooney and Barbara Rooney; and his parents, Joseph Sr. Rooney and Ruth Rooney (Nee Kennedy).

He is survived by: his children, Tom Rooney (Missy), Tammy Rooney, Rick Rooney (Lisa), Linda Ehrhard (Steve), Dave Rooney (Amy) and Sarah Sheppard; and his sisters, Diane Thebeau, Kathy Belcher and Debbie Figueroa.
