He was predeceased by: his parents, George W. Hess, Sr. and Nora Mae Hess (Losh); his grandchildren, Nicole Hess and Jason Fabreizi; and his siblings, Earl Hess, Merle Hess, Forrest Hess, Samuel Edmond Hess, Imogene Newman, Okie Todd, Mary Francis Sallee, Raymah Lee Alkire and Betty Furlong.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Sharp; his sons, Charles Edwin "Ed" Hess (Sheryl) of Aurora and Timothy Hess of Chillicothe, Missouri; and his grandchildren, Jason Hess, Erica Hess Aylesbury, Jarrod Hess, Christine Hess Tomczak, Justin Smothers, Jennifer Smothers and Katie Smothers. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
