Shawn Merritt wrote a sympathy message

“In loving memory of Ryan Burkett, So dearly loved. So sadly missed. God bless. Ryan and I have gone back a long time as friends, then brothers. Eventually living with me for a few days. Then he would leave afterwards. And it was cool, playing guitar and harmonica that we recorded with too. Seeing him safe at my house, loved and looked out for his friendship and safety. Having those moments I'll never forget. I love you man. With love. To all family and friends. May we remember good times ahead.”
