He was predeceased by: his parents, George Bernhardt and Addie Bernhardt; and his siblings, Virgil Bernhardt, George Bernhardt and Virginia Dunnegan.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Bernhardt; his children, Vicki Cross (Todd) and James Bernhardt Jr.; his stepchildren, Jill Ketterer (Chuck) and Craig Rutledge (Jane); his grandchildren, Monica, Lindsey, Rachael, Zoe, Isabel, Olivia, Sophia, Ethan and Wyatt; and his great grandchildren, Amelia, Abigail and Valerie.
