He was predeceased by: his son Dennis Yates; and his siblings, John Yates, Louis "Pat" Yates and Joan Myers. He is survived by: his wife Helen I. "Jean"; his children, Sandra Dickey, Robert Yates (Heather) and Scott Yates; and his siblings, Alice Hackworth, Mary Parks, Helen Kelly, Linda Farrell and Charles "Ed" Yates (Cathy). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Joplin Humane Society.
