He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ernest and Alta Leta Smith (Miller); and his sisters, Virginia Ellen Smith and Wilma Shirley Smith Skinner. He is survived by: his former wife Lois Ellen Wolfe; his wife Carol; his children, Kathryn Leigh Wilcox of Liberty, MO and David Brian Smith (Vicki) of Smithville, MO; his grandchildren, Chad Wilcox (Erin) of Austin, TX, Steven Wilcox of Liberty, MO, Kalie Wilcox of Franklin, TN, Jessica Allen (Kale) of Gladstone, MO, Emily Wood (Zach) and Sarah Davis (Carson) of Kansas City, MO; his stepchildren, Michelle Shiver of Memphis, TN and Vince Matlick (Wende) of Weston, MO; his stepgranddaughter Madisyn Matlick of Weston, MO; and his pet Ben. He is also survived by one nephew, four nieces and many cousins and his faithful companion.
He also helped dig the foundation by hand for Smith Food Market which opened in January 1953.
