He was predeceased by: his parents, Odus Hamel and Gloria Hamel; his siblings, Evelyn Greeson and Buford Hamel (Shorty); and his children, Rebecca Jane Hamel and David Devoe Hamel.
He is survived by: his brother Shorty; his wife Roberta Fern Hamel; his sisters, Amelia Kathrine Meyers (Midge) and Gloria Jean Abney; his children, Cynthia Ann Hamel, Charles Dale Snead and Russell David Snead; and his grandchildren, Tessie Russell and Timmothy Rahman.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that all memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
