He was predeceased by: his parents, Loyd "Spide" and Opal Hargis (Patrick); and his siblings, Doris Johnson, Bob Hargis, Evelyn Shellenbarger and Connie Farmer.

He is survived by: his wife Marinell Longstreet; his children, Jayne Prewitt (Pat) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Nancy Dunlap (Tom) of Joplin, Missouri, Ann McDowell (Jerry) of Harrisburg, Missouri and Darin Hargis (Jenni) of Fordland, Missouri; his granddaughters, Sarah Johnson (Eric) of Mt. Vernon, Rebecca Schoen (Nathan) of Mt. Vernon and Bethany Patterson (Justin) of Mt. Vernon; and his great grandchildren, Lucas, Drew, Nella, Ethan, Reid, Norah and Benjamin. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
