He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Rickers and Alice Rickers. He is survived by: his significant other Janet Rickers; his children, Joseph (Lisa) of San Jose, CA, John (Melissa) of Bemidji, MN and Sue of Bemidji, MN; his grandchildren, Zach (Taylor) of Bemidji, MN, Lauren of Moorhead, MN, Meredith of San Diego, CA and Daniel; and his brother Donald (Russell). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Russell's family has designated the following memorials: Nobles County Historical Society, Ecumen Meadows, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
