He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Hanson and Stella Hanson (Ottum); and his brother John. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Deckert of Waseca; his children, Gordon Hanson (Melissa) of Owatonna, Deborah Nelson of Waseca and Christina; his grandchildren, Erin, Rachel and Jamie; his great grandchildren, Addison, Weston, Jordan and Magnus; and his siblings, David Hanson (Donna) of Hopkins, Julie Engen (Ralph) of Gig Harbor, WA and Mary Sanborn (Mel) of Faribault. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
