He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Gumke and Louisa Gumke (Schelecht); his wives, Eva Rose Nunn and Clarinda Miller; and his granddaughter Elizabeth.
He is survived by: his children, Joseph (Charlene) of Gonzales, Angela of Wahpeton and Michelle Winter (Greg) of Hollister; his stepchildren, Russell Andrews Jr., Landa Ackerman (Terry) and Ronda Symons (Steve); and his siblings, Doreen Gumke and Dennis Gumke. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren.
