With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Alan Hooper (Saint Paul, Minnesota), born in Berkeley, California, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on June 22, 2024 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As Alan departs from our midst, his spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Alan. Though Alan may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his significant other Sigi Leonhard; his daughter Nadja Leonhard-Hooper; his brother Kim Hooper; his nephews, Josiah and Muir Hooper; and his cousins, Carol, Celia and Fran.
Donations can be made in Alan's name to the University of Minnesota Zoology Department Memorial fund in honor of Alan's commitment to racial diversity in science education, or any progressive, justice-focused organization that feels vital to you at this time.
