He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Nelson and Edna Nelson (Olson); his wife Shirley Hendrickson; and his siblings, Gordon Nelson, Norma Jean Kobb and Helen Muhvic.

He is survived by: his children, Vicki Turner (Scott) of Kindred, ND and James Nelson of Richfield, MN; his brother Philip Nelson (Sharon) of Cambridge, MN; and his granddaughters, Jessica and Krista Turner. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and relatives.
