He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gefre and Eva Gefre (Geier); his wife Leona Spinler of Michael's Catholic Church; his son John; and his grandchildren, Lauren and Cathryn.

He is survived by: his sons, Michael Gefre (Christine), James Gefre and David Gefre of Mankato, MN. He is also survived by five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
