He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Herbst and Nellie Herbst (Roth); his spouse Eldred "Dolly" (Rossow); his stepmothers, Anna Williams and Ossie Jones; his brother Charles Herbst (Jean); his stepsiblings, Hayden Williams (Verna), Enid Blackley (Hamilton), Ione Kunst (George), Esther Moritz (John) and Marion Williams (Robert); and his brother-in-law D. "Tim" Rossow (Etta).
He is survived by: his children, Cathy Mikolai and Mike Herbst (Cheri); and his granddaughters, Kirsten and Kaitlin Herbst. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
