He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Helstad and Esther Helstad (Ofsdahl); and his siblings, Dorance Helstad (Betty), Dean Helstad and Leatrice McLeod (Kenneth).
He is survived by: his wife Audrey Luhmann; his sons, Scott Helstad (Lynn) of Winona, Peter Helstad (Sheryl) of West Salem and Brad Helstad of La Crescent; his grandchildren, Ben Helstad (Heidi Maddern), Sonja Helstad, Stephen Helstad (Megan) and Laura Early (Josiah); his great grandchildren, Saren Maddern, Lily Early and Noah Early; his brother David Helstad (Sharon) of Milwaukee; and his sister-in-law Sharon Helstad of Ettrick. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church or a memorial of choice.
