He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Kastenschmidt and Emma Kastenschmidt (Storandt); his in-laws, Arthur and Meta Veglahn; his siblings, Phylis Kasten (Lloyd), Jesse West (Calvin), Lois Barton (Sherman), Dorthy Evenson (Ben), Betty Holberg (James), Karyl Draeger (Jim) and Claire Kastenschmidt; and his sister-in-law Shirley Hesse (Maynard).
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Veglahn; his sons, Dean Kastenschmidt (Jean) and Douglas Kastenschmidt (Kristine); his grandchildren, Neil Kastenschmidt, Sean Kastenschmidt (Amber), Kyle Kastenschmidt, Shane Kastenschmidt (Megan), Dan Suessmith (Alicia) and Bobbie Suessmith; his great grandchildren, Temperance, Kolter, Mara, Madalyn Kastenschmidt, Cohen and Grayson Suessmith; his sister Judy Draeger; and his sister-in-law Elaine Klankowski (Paul). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and can be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent.
