He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parent Dutch; his children, Melodee Balk (Dean) of Cresco, IA and Jay Dekker (Lynn) of Fulda, MN; his grandchildren, Sara Nichols (Tim) of Marshalltown, IA, Dan Dekker (Liz) of Estherville, IA, Bret Balk (Rachael) of Minneapolis, MN and Kayla Hoffman (Caleb) of Shannon City, IA; his great grandchildren, Koda, Corbin and Carver Hoffman; his grandchildren, Jacob, Millie, Clara Dekker, Sawyer, Bennett Nichols, Elowen Balk and Van Zyl; his wife Fannie Van Zyl; and his siblings, Len Dekker, Marie Veen (John) and Nellie Dykeshorn (Lowell). He was also cherished by nieces and nephews.
When Jake and Fannie retired and lived in Worthington he served 10 years on the RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) Advisory Committee.
