He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Hanstad and Florence Hanstad (Olson); his wife Joyrene Melaas; his great grandchild Nora Martinson; his brother Leon Hanstad; his brothers-in-law, Sergy Owczynsky, Les Royer and Gary VandeLinde; his stepfather Leonard Anderson; and his parents-in-law, Palmer and Edna Melaas.
He is survived by: his children, Jeffrey Hanstad (Linda) of Fergus Falls, Jann Peterson (Dale) of Fergus Falls, Jerry Hanstad (Susan) of Dalton and Jay Hanstad of Fergus Falls; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Johnson (Dan) of Fergus Falls, Samantha Batzlaff (Jason) of Fergus Falls, Trevor Hanstad of Litchville, ND, Dustin Hanstad of Dalton, Michelle Braaten (Jason) of Ottertail, Sabrina Prime (Seth) of St. Louis, MO and Dorie Martinson (Dan) of Ashby; his great grandchildren, Cody Jennen, Emmerson Johnson, Sydney, Cooper, Max Batzlaff, Hunter, Gunner, Rylie Hanstad, Brandt Patton, Roland Braaten, Athene, Tove Prime, Colton and Addison Martinson; his sister Lola Royer; and his sister-in-law Ona Hanstad.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Aastad Lutheran Church or PioneerCare Foundation in Fergus Falls, MN.
