He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Dempsey and Jeanne Dempsey (Bridgeford); his parents-in-law, Michael "Jerry" Noyes and Margaret Noyes; his sister Maureen "Kay" Bendele; his nephew Michael Bendele; and his siblings-in-law, Neil Noyes and LaVonne Noyes.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Dempsey; his children, Jo Beth Dempsey, Kelly Dean (Gus) of Eagan, MN, Jill Kennedy (Kris) of Apple Valley, MN and Katie Edvall (Bryan); his nephews, Josh Grinde (Nicole) and Ryan Grinde (Jennie) of Grand Forks, ND; his grandchildren, Clare, Maggie, Sam, Ethan of Melonie, RJ and Tony; his siblings, Joe Dempsey (Julie) of Grand Forks, ND and Rayanne Sillers (Kip); his brother-in-law Ric Noyes (Darlene); his pets, Gracie, Missy and Charlie; and also Michael.
