He was predeceased by: his father Charles Backus; and his stepfather Rocco Ciaverella. He is survived by: his sons, Jonathon Backus of Okemos, MI and Jeremy Backus (Brie) of Potterville, MI; his grandsons, Francis and Charles; his mother Jo Anne Ciaverella of Belleville, MI; and his siblings, Charles Backus (Wendy), Julie Couturier, Janice Blackburn, Theresa Handshew and Dr. David Ciaverella (Maria). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
