He was predeceased by: his parents, Hjalmer Mattson and Signe Mattson (Wiitanen); and his siblings, Toivo, Carlo, Robert and Elsie Latva.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy A. Makela; his son Dale (Sara); his grandchildren, Adam (Amy) and Amy (Kevin); his sisters, Eleanor Harrison, Madison and Emily Johns; and his brother-in-law Carl Makela (Eileen). He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
