John F. Shaneyfelt Sr. Obituary
John F. Shaneyfelt Sr., 87, of Three Rivers, formerly Union City, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 24 2022, in the care of Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Three Rivers.
There will be a visitation, date to be announced, at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trl., Union City, MI 49094. Interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery will be held at a future date.
John was born on June 16, 1934, in Ridgeville, Indiana to Roy and Ethel (Michael) Shaneyfelt. John joined the Army on January 3, 1956 and was honorably discharged on April 10, 1958. He married the love of his life, Lucy Ervin, on July 6, 1967 in Redkey, IN. John and Lucy lived in IN, until they moved to Union City in 1983 and have been part of the community for almost 40 years.
John had several jobs, but primarily was a bulk food truck driver for the Feed Mill. In his later years he worked at Pete Sanitation as well as security at U.S. Protection Services. When not at work, John enjoyed watching WWE, completing crossword puzzles, watching Western movies, listening to old country music NOT what is being made today. He also loved to tinker on cars which, came naturally, as he also loved to drag race muscle cars.
John is survived by: his wife, Lucy Shaneyfelt of Colon; his children, Melissa (Dave Cook) Coyle of Union City, Jefferey Shaneyfelt of Colon and John Jr. (Sheri Fetter) Shanyfelt of Colon; his grandchild, Dennis Shanneyfelt of Union City; his honorary grandchildren, Catherine and Alex Wetzel; siblings, Myrtle Osborne of Tucson, AZ and Bonita Watkins of Muncie, IN.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Charles, Dennis, Roy Jr., Thurman, Ruby, Mary, Clara, and Martha Shaneyfelt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to Lighthouse to assist with final funeral expenses.
