He was predeceased by: his wives, Lillian and Louise; his grandson Patrick; and his siblings, Bob Smith, Melba Dombrowski and Jane Fowler.

He is survived by: his children, Donald (late Helen) and Cindy Wharfield (late George); his grandchildren, Kimberly Grahl (John), Donald II and Scott; his great grandchildren, Bradley, Victoria, Kyle, Madison and Emma; and his sister Joanne Cole.
