He was predeceased by: his wife Donna; his daughters, Debra Conner (Bates) and Jennifer Bates; his parents, Leon Bates and Elsie Bates; and his siblings, Roger Bates and Janice Crissey (Bates).

He is survived by: his son Jeff (Michele Bates); his grandchildren, Alivia, Tyler Buxton, Kurtis Conner, Jacob, Tori Conner, Jessica Bates, Michael Johnson and Kaitlyn Johnson; and his sister Pat Parameter. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
