He was predeceased by: his parents, Harmond Nichols and Emma Nichols (Gibson); his brother Jeffrey Nichols; his sister-in-law Susan Herringshaw; and his nephew Michael Hutchinson.
He is survived by: his former wife Kathryn Lynn VanVliet; his wife Kathy; his children, Deanna Orlando (Steve) of Brighton and Andy Nichols (Lee) of Caro; his grandchildren, Alyssa Orlando, Lauren Orlando, Dallas Andrew Nichols II, Jacob Nichols, Jeremy Trout and Kristin Goetschy (Grant); his great grandchildren, Ryan, Thomas and Abigail; his siblings, Philip J Nichols (Kathy) of Decker, Pamela Ouvry of Cass City and Douglas Nichols of Decker; and his siblings-in-law, Richard VanVliet (Mary Jane) of Cass City, Christine Little of Cass City and Douglas Herringshaw of Caro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
