He was predeceased by: his parents, David Thomas Holmes and Evelyn Louise Holmes; and his son David Thomas Holmes III. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Jean; his daughters, Kimberly Anne Holmes and Kristen Louise Cooper (Jack); his grandsons, Bradley Cooper and Drew Cooper; his sister Jerrie Lynn Robinson; his niece Beth Ann Meyers; and his nephew Jeffrey Meyers (Amanda). He is also survived by other nieces, nephews and cousins.
