She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parent Adeline Smith; her children, Addie Mae Hanks of Lansing, Erle Stanley Swanson of Denver and Joell L. Hanks of Lansing; her grandchildren, Nicole Hanks, Sarah-Gayle Galbreath (Chad Galbreath), Lawrence Wilson, Arian Hanks Longmire, Arabia Hanks Longmire, Dorean Hanks, India Hanks Cleggett and Joell L. Hanks Jr.; her husband Theodore; her sons, Roosevelt "Rosey" Hanks, Edward and Plymouth; her parent Adaline Smith; her siblings, Johnny Smith, Walter Smith-Greener, Elizabeth Smith-McClain, Martha Ellis-Callahan and Mary Ellis-Walker; and her stepfather Ellis. She was also cherished by 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, distant relatives and friends.
