She was predeceased by: her husband Richard Root; her brothers, Elvin and Donald Hofstra; and her granddaughter Sarah Van Houten. She is survived by: her children, Diane Geldhof (Jim), Dan Root (Pam), Denise Vruggink (Gord), Darlene Grasman (Charles) and Deb Van Houten (Wes). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of LaVerne, contributions may be made to Beacon of Hope.
