He was predeceased by: his parents, Gail Markell and Fern Markell (Wyland); his wife Ann Elizabeth Klein; his siblings, Leighton Markell and Lona; his brother-in-law Phil Crispigna; his sister LaVaughn; his siblings-in-law, Ward Alquist and Laurie Walstrom; and his grandson Matthew Marcouiller.
He is survived by: his friend Don Sericati; his children, Jim Markell (Kristie) of Iron Mountain, MI and Bobbi Ann Carroll (Jeff) of West Bloomfield, MI; his sister-in-law Sandra Markell of Galt, CA; his grandchildren, Eddie Sundquist (Ashley), Nick Markell, Nate Markell, Noah Markell (Laura Jacobson), Cory Marcouiller, Ethan and Mason Carroll; and his great grandchildren, Kailey and Mathew Sundquist. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial to Pine Grove will be established in his memory.
