He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Bernthal and Agnes Bernthal (Nuechterlein); his wife Frances Bickel; and his siblings, Arnold (Doris), Wilmar (Lorna), Edward Bernthal (Berniece) and Lucy Conzelmann (Fred).
He is survived by: his children, Phil Bernthal (Dawn), Paul Bernthal (Marie), Barb Zietz (Jerry) and Beth Reindel (Jim); his grandchildren, Dru Montri (Adam), Gwen Victorson (Scott), Nathan Bernthal (Karly), Jacob Bernthal (Brooke), Andrea Phillips (Corey), Katie Trinquero (Paul), Nick Bernthal (Aom), Adam Bernthal (Kelsey), Andrew Zietz (Amy) and Rebecca Zietz; his great grandchildren, Lydia, Alison Montri, Delilah, Elias Victorson, Hunter of Isabelle, EJ, Henry, Ekoe, August, Nason, Blakely Bernthal, Eason, Ava, Audrey Phillips, Noah, Madison Trinquero, Avery, Adalyn, Haylee Zietz and Austin Pike; and his brother Frederick Bernthal (Shirley). He is also survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
