She was predeceased by: her parents, Elizabeth Perala and Charles Ruohonen; her husband Melvin Karkkainen; and her siblings, Eva, Irene, Ellen, Margaret, Helmi, Ann, Raymond, Carl, Arthur and Robert.
She is survived by: her children, Cheryl Frawley (Ed) of Holt, Michigan, Dr. Michael Karkkainen (Tammy Sovey) of Menominnee and Dr. Thomas Karkkainen (Kristina Sachinski) of Fleming Island, FL; her grandchildren, Kevin, Kelsey, Kari, Kaisa, Evelyn and Tommy Karkkainen; and her great grandchildren, Henry, Holden, Amelia, Ashton, Archer and Alana. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Melvin H. and Ruth E. Karkkainen Scholarship Fund and sent to the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba, MI 49829.
