He was predeceased by: his parents, Josiah Mongar and Doris Mongar (Chandler); and his siblings, Larry Mongar and Linda Taylor (Edward "Skip"). He is survived by: his children, Cynthia Soper (Calvin) of Idaho and Josiah Mongar (Annette) of Manton; his sisters, Joanne Nelson (Norman) of Cadillac and Barbara Sutton (Gordon) of Cadillac; his grandchildren, Cody Mongar (Alexis), Nicole Smith (Garrett), Tiffany and Hailey Macy; his great grandchildren, Marshall Smith, Elaina Mongar, Vincent Smith, Lincoln Smith, Greyson Smith, Delilah Smith and Everett Mongar; his nephews, Don Grage (Juli), Ron Grage and Jason Taylor; and his niece Jennifer Grames (Jamie).
