He was predeceased by: his parents, Zefferino Copes and Victoria Copes (Sylvestre); and his siblings, Virginia, Elaine, Delores and Carl.

He is survived by: his former wife Mary Louise Gerding; his wife Mary L. Copes; his children, Victoria Griffin (James), Kathy Copes, Joe Copes (Kris), John Copes (Tammy), Dennis Copes (Amy), Dan Copes (Patti) and Christopher Copes; and his grandchildren, Jamison, Jennifer, Taylor, Trevor, Alex, Mia, Abbey, Tess, Averi, Chelsie and Ivy.
