He was predeceased by: his parents, Neil Dygert and Kathryn Dygert (Freeberg); and his brother-in-law Edward Farlin. He is survived by: his wife Alice Fay Thomas; his children, William Erik Dygert (Allison) of Vicksburg, Wendy Elizabeth Jarvis (Allen) of Charlotte, Michael Scott Dygert of Charlotte and Stephanie Lee Sankis (Mario); his grandchildren, Brennan Dygert, Sydney Taylor, Lincoln Taylor, Kaleb Jarvis and Kaitlyn Jarvis; and his sisters, Susan Farlin of Charlotte and Ruth Moody (Richard) of Escanaba.
