He was predeceased by: his father Ted Dunaven; his granddaughter Emily Patin; his mother Laura May Dunaven (Houting); his sister Noreen Dunaven; his brother-in-law Raymond Veltkamp; and his former wife Luberta "Birdie" Tefft Dunaven.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Jean Dunaven (Kozdrey); his children, David Dunaven (Judy), Scott Dunaven, Jackie Nowicki, Christine Veltkamp (Ron), Susanne Hansen (Dan), Jeanne Leale (Rick) and Jerry Patin (Kim); his sister Joyce Veltkamp; and his siblings-in-law, Earl Tefft, Mary Elna Dauchy (Ray) and Kathleen Cooke (Doug). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.
