He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Emerson Whitfield and Ivy Whitfield (Hopps); his wife Charlotte Waters; his sons, Mark (Robin), Donald (Melissa), Paul (Cheryl) and Brian Whitfield (LeaAnna); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Nabors (Quinton), Adam Whitfield (Kylie), Casey Whitfield (Alexa), Sydney Sutliff (Anthony), Kristi Whitfield (Evan Field), Ryan Whitfield, Jason Whitfield, Emerson Whitfield and Kinsey Whitfield; his great grandchildren, Wesley Clifford, Eleanor Nabors and Charlotte Ann Whitfield; and his brothers, Emerson Charles (Chuck) and Russell Lee Whitfield. He was also cherished by four sons, four daughters-in-law, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
